Jumbo Caladium Bulbs

Caladium bulbs are categorized by size, which affects the number of leaves produced rather than the size of the leaves themselves. Jumbo caladium bulbs measure 2½ to 3½ inches in diameter and contain more "eyes" or growth points, leading to fuller, more robust plants. Smaller bulbs, like No. 1 or No. 2 sizes, still produce beautiful foliage but with fewer leaves per bulb. If you want lush, dramatic coverage, jumbo or large caladium bulbs are the best option.

Jumbo caladium bulbs thrive in warm, humid environments and prefer partial to full shade. They grow best in rich, well-draining soil that stays consistently moist, but will also thrive in dry environments since they are tropical. Planting jumbo caladiums in shaded garden beds, pathways, or large patio containers will add a bright, tropical touch to the space.

If you live in a colder climate, dig up the jumbo caladium bulbs before the first frost. Let them dry for a few days, then store them in a cool, dry location, such as a garage or basement. Replant them in the spring once soil temperatures consistently stay above 65°F.
